Labor Day Weekend

For Labor Day weekend this year we decided to stay here and do some fun things together as a family. Friday afternoon we took the boys up to Mt. Charleston to camp overnight. We'd been wanting to go all summer but never made it, so this was the perfect chance to enjoy some cooler weather and the great outdoors. Zac LOVES camping, and Kayden did too.
I enjoy it as long as it's just for one night! :)

Eating lunch

After we unloaded the car, we ate lunch and set up the tent. Then the boys were ready to explore.

Kayden found a stick for each hand and was ready to go!

Hiking up the hill behind our campsite

Two little monkeys hanging in the trees

Zac loved helping to collect firewood for the fire he couldn't wait to build

We had fun hiking through the woods and the boys loved having endless space to run, climb, and play with sticks in. I loved the cool weather and the clean, fresh air.

After spending the afternoon exploring and playing, the boys were ready to build a fire and eat dinner so that they could roast marshmallows!

It wasn't dark yet, but we finally gave in and started the fire. They loved it!

Love those big blue eyes!

Kayden couldn't get enough marshmallows! He kept grabbing them and shoving them in his mouth like he hadn't eaten all day. Rather than stopping him like I probably should have done, I just grabbed my camera instead.

Zac, on the other hand, was all about the marshmallow-roasting-experience. He didn't care to eat them, but he sure had fun cooking them! He'd roast 'em until they started on fire, then have me blow them out. Then he'd say, "Daddy, I cooked a marshmallow for you!"

Marshmallow anyone?

We had a fun time camping, then hurried home Saturday morning for a funeral and a baptism. Monday we went to the Lied Children's Museum and then had a fun barbecue at the park with some great friends. What a fun weekend!

Looks like they thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Nothing is better than marshmallows around a campfire, roasted or not.

Hi guys! I just discovered your blog! Good to see your cute family! We missed seeing everyone at the family reunion--I'm due to have baby #4 October 2nd (before would be great too), so we didn't think we should go on a trip right now. Your boys are so cute!
