Things We Learned on our Weekend in St. George

Here are a few things we learned on our trip to St. George last weekend:

1. Before taking your active 2 year old to the Dinosaur Tracks Museum, make sure that it is kid friendly and that there are no grumpy old women working there that will follow you around making sure you don't touch or do anything she doesn't like. If you walk in and notice either of the above, just turn around and leave right then. Don't decide to try it because you'll just end up leaving anyway.


2. Check to make sure that the steakhouse you are going to for lunch is actually open for lunch before you drive back from the Dinosaur Museum to pick up your brother, then back across town to the restaurant. Otherwise, you may end up feeding grumpy, hungry children at the nearby Costco instead.


3. If you want to take your kids to the outdoor movie in the new St. George Town Square, double check to make sure that they are actually playing a movie that night. Take a swimsuit or extra pair of clothes along just in case there's no movie to be found and your two year old wants to play in the fountains and water features instead (especially if he HATES wearing wet clothes).


4. Sand Hollow Reservoir closes for triathlons every once in a while. You probably won't hear or read anything about it until you drive all the way there, boat in tow, kids in swimsuits, ready to spend the day on the lake. There won't be a sign posted when you turn off to drive to the lake, so you'll have to wait until you're almost to the boat ramp before being told that the lake is closed and you'll have to turn around.


5. Luckily, if this happens, there's another (although smaller, colder, more crowded, and choppier) lake about 15 minutes back up the road. But, if you're all ready for a day on the lake and time is wasting, it's better than turning around and just going home.


6. If you've had an unusual amount of bad luck with every place you've gone the whole weekend, don't be surprised if the wind picks up while on the lake so that after a while you feel like you're boating on the ocean, large white capped waves and all. Just hurry and leave before every other boat on the lake decides to leave, too.

7. Laugh about all the funny things that keep happening to you and have fun anyways.


After all...

- Even if the Dino Tracks Museum didn't quite work out, playing on the waterslide and swimming at the community pool, eating lots of yummy food at Grandma's house, playing with Grandma and Grandpa, shopping, watching the city parade for "Dixie Rodeo Days," and going to see Les Miserables at Tuachan (without the kids!) are all still fun ways to spend your weekend.

-You can go back to Texas Roadhouse for dinner when it is open and still enjoy a delicious meal, even if you didn't get it for lunch.

-There are other fun things to do in Town Square on Friday nights besides watch a movie--bounce houses and slides, water to play in, booths to shop at, live music.

-Even if the water's a little choppy, kids don't care, and it's still fun to wakeboard, skimboard, and tube...it just tests your skills a little more! :)

- It's nice to get away to relax and have fun with your family, even if things don't go quite as planned.

At the Lake
(We didn't bring our camera, so we took a few pictures with the cell phone...they're not that great, but better than none! We didn't even get any of us wake boarding with the beautiful mountains in the background. Oh well, maybe next time.)

Zac loves to play the ukulele with Uncle Ryan. It was so cute watching him "play" and sing songs. He will be sad when Ryan leaves on his mission and isn't there to play with him anymore.
